The DeBruce
Why We Love It
The DeBruce has the fortune and privilege of being nestled in one of the great sleepy river valleys in the United States. She sits on a ledge overlooking the Willowemoc Valley and its namesake river here in upstate New York’s Catskill Park. With its 14 guest rooms, access to hundreds of acres of private land spanning two mountains, a river, several ponds and a private pool, The DeBruce is about the place, the times and the continuing story of our home.
Stay
Operated by Foster Supply Hospitality (the team behind North Branch Inn and Arnold House), this new, all-inclusive resort is situated on hundreds of acres of private land on the Willowemoc and includes 30 miles of trails spanning two mountains. Beyond stunning views, the land offers a playground for hikers, snowshoers, and cross-country skiers; meanwhile, guides and equipment are provided for anglers and foragers. When exploration is over, this 1880s-era hotel greets returning naturists with a spa, firepits, an outdoor pool, and a restaurant that snagged the sixth spot in Esquire’s “Best New Restaurants in America, 2018.”
Eat
The multi-course tasting menus in the dining room are included in the price of your stay, but drop-in diners are welcome with 24-hour notice. Chef Aksel Theilkuhl forages on the surrounding land, and the meat and staunchly seasonal produce here are sourced close by. Expect adventurous fare like cured Hudson Valley deer heart—but if that sounds like a challenge, the Club Room is cheaper and à la carte.
Henning’s Local
Why We Love It
A Norwegian chef, Hudson Valley products, a solid bar (and a diverse set of influences) keep this comfy bistro attractively weird. Hungarian Goulash? Steak Diane? Juniper Gravlax? Sure. Just don’t skip that Beaverkill trout.

The Arnold House
Why We Love It
At the Arnold, guests will find friendly, warm and lively service and a menu that embraces comfortable accessibility and local ingredients, including trout from the region’s world famous rivers. Woodstoves are roaring in the fall and winter, and the outdoor deck and BBQ barn & bonfire pit is alive in the spring and summer.
